The Kitchen Stove Backsplash

StoveTiles1a.jpg (129003 bytes)

When we replaced our stove, we chose a "slide-in model" that required a backsplash against the wall. We wanted one that would be easy to clean, so tiles were the answer. I designed and executed the backsplash on blank tiles and had them fired by a potter neighbor who had a kiln. What is puzzling about glazes is that the color when applied may look nothing like the final result when fired. Earlier experimentation with the glazes left me with a number of variously colored tiles that we used at the back of the kitchen counters.

 Coffee Table

When we were delivering an obsolete computer to the Salvation Army (back when that was possible), I spotted an unfinished table that was about to be transferred from one store to another. We swapped the computer for the table right on the spot. I painted it to be our coffee table - and one on which we can play games. I'm not very good at chess. But my husband and I take turns beating one another at backgammon.

End Table

This is a little table that I gave my mother for Christmas. She wanted something just this size on which to place things in her dining-living room. It was plain when it started, but not when I got finished with it.

Stained Glass

Although it is not my genre, I took a hands-on course in stained glass a few years ago. We each had to see a project through from beginning to end. Here is the result of my efforts. It hangs in a hall window and receives the rising sun at all times of the year. It cheers up each day.
