| The
Kitchen Stove Backsplash

|
When we replaced our stove,
we chose a "slide-in model" that required a backsplash against
the wall. We wanted one that would be easy to clean, so tiles were the
answer. I designed and executed the backsplash on blank tiles and had them
fired by a potter neighbor who had a kiln. What is puzzling about glazes
is that the color when applied may look nothing like the final result when
fired. Earlier experimentation with the glazes left me with a number of
variously colored tiles that we used at the back of the kitchen
counters.
