We are on sabbatical until June 15, 2008 at which time we will reopen with an expanded selection of quality maps for sale. In the interim, we will only be able to fulfill orders for a limited number of items that are listed here, so please inquire first by phone at 207-529-6620 or by email. We regret the inconvenience.

Since 1978, our business has been in antique maps.  We have been up and running on the web since 2002.  We continually add new material, so check back from time to time.  Click here to see WHAT'S NEW.

Use the buttons at the top of this page to access maps by geographical areas. When you get to the United States, for example, you will find further pages subdivided by regions, with an indication of which states are grouped on each page. The same is true of Europe, where countries in a region are grouped together. We have added a page of inexpensive bargains

What you can expect to find here:

We are always on the lookout for interesting old maps.  To us, interesting does not necessarily mean the very old or expensive rarities, but those that are reflective of human activities through the ages.   Maps that show growing awareness of hitherto unknown places are such; the opening of the American West is an example.  The growth of cities - much of it within the last century or two is another example.  Antiquarian maps such as these are still readily affordable.

About us:

Amherst Antiquarian Maps was founded by Jon and Bernice Rosenthal as Cartographics in 1978.  When we moved to Amherst from Connecticut in the mid '80s, the name was changed to reflect our location and our commercial focus.  In 1992, we took on the stewardship of David Jolly's Antique Map Price Record.  We have published 6 print volumes through the 2000 edition.  For Volume 17 for 2001-2002, we teamed up with Jeremy Poole as we switched to an an all encompassing electronic edition which replaced the print version. Jeremy took over as the sole publisher with Volume 18. Annually updated editions are now available on a CD-ROM for Windows and for Mac from www.MapRecord.com.
