CHINA and KOREA.  Gibson, engraver. "A New & Accurate Map of the Empire of China from the Sieur Robert Atlas with Improvements". 1759. From A New Geographical Dictionary ... London: printed for J. Coote. 7½ x 11½" (20 x 29 cm). Uncolored. Condition: A light spot in the sea area; otherwise excellent.  

Coverage is of the traditional Chinese provinces to Sichuan, which are names and delineated, and includes Korea without Manchuria.  The Wall is delineated and essentially forms the northern frontier. A bit of transliteration to the modern will locate most of the cities.

CHINA and KOREA. Mathew Carey. "China divided into its Great Provinces According to the best Authorities". c.1800-1814. From General Atlas, published in Philadelphia; B. Tanner, engraver. 13 x 13½" (33 x 35 cm). Later wash and outline color by provinces. Condition: Very good. 

The provincial divisions west to Sichuan & Yunnan, and north to the Great Wall are readily discernable, with numerous cities and towns identified. A bit of Japan appears, with the islands south to Formosa.

Extends beyond the traditional Chinese provinces to "Tungquin" on the south. Shows the Great Wall and a "Barrier or Wood" in the northeast. A number of Korean cities are identified.

The usual Tallis decor with 6 vignettes, including a "British Factory at Canton", by A.H. Wray, engraved by J.B. Allen. Unusual geographical coverage with Burma (Myanmar), probably reflecting British interests at the time; Many cities identified, including Hong Kong and features on Formosa.

No-nonsense nineteenth century English cartography. Many cities and towns are identified; rivers are delineated; the Grand Canal is shown in the east; the Wall forms the northern frontier.
