FRANCE.  Jansson van Waesberge.   "Gallia".  [c.1630] 1676. Probably after Cloppenberg, from Nieuwe en beknopte Uytbeeldinge ...   7 x 10" (18 x 25 cm). Uncolored. Condition: Although printed askew originally, very good. 

All of France, extending into Belgium and Switzerland. In the original printing, the plate was laid on the slant with the result that the top right border neat line fades away.  But all the geography is there, with many ships at sea.

FRANCE.  Herman Moll.  "A New Map of Italy Distinguishing all the Sovereignties in it, whether States, Kingdoms, Duchies, Principalities, Replublicks, &c. with the Post Roads, and many Remarks not extant on any Map according to ye Newest most Exact Observations ... 1714". 1714-1736 [c.1736]. From The World Described ...  24¼ x 38½" (62 x 98 cm). Outline color. Condition: Rice paper backing, stabilizing the usual flaws at the outer folds which are minimally discolored with negligible fold loss after reinstatement of a portion of upper right fold; a few minor spots, surface loss and margin chips; for a large Moll map, good or better. 

A superb overview of the largest and most geographically varied country in Western Europe stretching from the English Channel to the Riviera and from the Atlantic to the Alps. Two index drapes key many cities and towns and list their distance from Paris along with a numbered key to the passes through the Pyrenees. Shows "post roads and the Computed Leagues from Town to Town". Parliamentary towns, "bishopricks" and universities are indicated, as well as battles fought with the English.

A very attractive map published during France's century in cartography. Political subdivisions are by provinces, apparently coincident with the military governments referred to in the title.

France by departments which are labeled. Topography is rendered where it is rugged; many placenames appear.

FRANCE: BORDEAUX. Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. "Bordeaux". Dated 1832. 12 x 15" (31 x 38 cm). Water's edge in blue; some highlight color. Condition: Very good. 

A plan of this river port in the west at about 4½ inches/mile. The city is strung out along the Garonne. Below are two bold engravings looking up and down the river.

FRANCE: MARSEILLE. Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. "Marseille." Dated 1840. 12½ x 15½" (32 x 40 cm). Some water courses in blue; forts in pink; otherwise uncolored. Condition: Some residual binding paste in top margin; very good. 

A block plan with streets name in this Mediterranean port city. A citadel and fort flank the inner harbor entrance; some additional docks are projected.

FRANCE: PARIS Environs. Unknown source. "Environs de Paris 1851."  14½ x 17" (37 x 43 cm). Uncolored. Condition: Vaguely apparent old folds from when in a small book; minute loss at some fold intersections; overall very good. 

Greater Paris when the city was compact. Many of the present neighborhoods lie outside of a ring of walls. Extends from Versailles to Gournay-sur-Marne with many villages identified. Roads and railroads appear.

A plan of the inner harbor docks, the adjacent neighborhood and the attendant fortifications of this home port of the French Mediterranean fleet. The scale is huge; about 10 inches to the mile. Below is a panoramic view from the outworks to the east.
