Maps from Walker's Atlas of Massachusetts

G.H. Walker & Co. and it's successors published atlases of the Commonwealth at least from 1891 through 1909, as listed by LeGear in United States Atlases in the Library of Congress. They were compiled under the direction of Oscar W. Walker. They include three series of maps as listed below. First, are the topographic maps; second, plans of the centers of Massachusetts' cities; and third, a set showing the Boston metropolitan area. Unless noted otherwise, they are about 18 x 26 inches. The maps that are being offered are from the 1904 edition of the atlas. Digital photo examples can be supplied upon request.

MA-WalkerTopo.jpg (77683 bytes)The topographic maps are similar in character to the USGS quadrangles of the same period, but covering 15 minutes vertically and 30 minutes horizontally. Detail includes elevation contours, waterways, open water, wetlands, roads and streets with names, but not structures such as are found on the USGS sheets. The example at right is a portion of Sheet No.4 (click to enlarge). Areas of coverage are shown in the index map below, with numbers corresponding to Atlas Plate numbers below.
